Alexa Chung has taken a stand this week!
The TV presenter and model has been criticised for her slim frame in recent months, being labelled as too thin and starving herself. Miss Chung has fought back at these reports challenging the public and the media to re-evaluate the way they think about women.
She told Fashionista.com
“I think it’s about time people stopped judging women on their appearance and more on their intellect, like you can appreciate my style without having to appreciate my weight… It’s not actually mutually inclusive. I just get frustrated because, just because I exist in this shape, doesn’t mean that I’m like advocating it and saying: ‘I look great.’ How do you know I’m not looking in the mirror and going: ‘I wish I could gain ten pounds?’ Which is actually quite often the case. But if you say that you sound like you’re bragging that you’re naturally thin, and you’re not allowed to do that because even though it’s not the ideal weight, it kind of is as well.”
The British sweetheart has also commented on the hypocrisy in attitudes about larger women and skinny women saying,
“how people that are bigger can be on the front covers of magazines saying: ‘I’m really happy with my shape.’ But if I was to do that, I’d be completely criticised and ridiculed. But why can’t I be happy with how I look?”
She Denies rumours that she is starving herself and maintains that her slight frame is her “Natural body shape”
We say well done the Alexa, people are very quick to judge when it comes to weight, don’t get us wrong images of Karlie Kloss with her ribs sticking out in a glossy mag, all the while being labelled as the perfect body is wrong, however you don’t see Alexa doing the same or actively setting an example for how we should look.
Alexa urges people to focus on personality and intellect, rather than appearance and we agree with her in this instance.
