DEATH BY BURRITO TO OPEN AT CATCH
Opening early September 2012, Death By Burrito is an exciting contemporary Mexican grill and cocktail bar brought to you by Shay Ola of underground experimental concept the Rebel Dining Society. Located at the renowned Catch bar in the heart of Shoreditch and in keeping with Rebel Dining Society traditions; experimental cocktails will form an inseparable part of the dining experience. Mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana (formerly of Worship St Whistling Shop, Purl & 69 Colebrook Row) has developed an exclusive Tequila Only cocktail list with Jose Cuervo Tradicional to go along with the street-food style menu.
Dishes and drinks go hand in hand at Death By Burrito; Ola and Chetiyawardana have carefully created a concise, simple menu to include large plates, small plates, sides and cocktails. Guests can gorge on Braised Pork Belly Burritos and Baja fish tacos served with Death By Burrito’s special deconstructed guacamole and blue corn chips, Lobster Ceviche, grilled Octopus and Poblano crepes Side offerings include Sweet Potato Strings and Drunken Beans.
‘We’re really excited to be launching Death By Burrito; and have been working hard to explore the relationship between food and cocktails. The complex flavour of Jose Cuervo Tradicional has given us infinite flavour pairing combinations to play with. We’ve always wanted to find a way to bring the Rebel Dining Society experience to a wider audience and think that with Death By Burrito we’ve cracked it.’ – Shay Ola

The only Tequila from Tequila using only 100% blue agave and rested in American white oak barrels for 6 months, the limited Jose Cuervo Tradicional is the only tipple of choice at Death By Burrito. Lucky revellers will be served an array of expertly mixed cocktails; including the Pink Paloma with Jose Cuervo Tradicional, raspberries and Aperol charged with homemade vanilla salted grapefruit soda, the innovative Turbo- Chelada made up of Jose Cuervo Tradicional, Mexican lager, cucumber and lime with a thyme salt air and for adventurous folk You da Ho-chata with Jose Cuervo Tradicional and spiced horchata with cinnamon, cardamom and smoke.
Jose Cuervo Tradicional can also be enjoyed neat, ice cold and as part of a Deconstructed Sangrita; soon to become a Death By Burrito classic. Halved cherry tomatoes are dipped in celery salt, coarse black pepper and caster sugar and then eaten after you have taken a sip of tequila, resulting in the most refreshing, if not slightly deadly, amuse bouche you will have ever tasted.
Building on its many successful years as the only late-night hotspot for Shoreditch’s trendy night owls, Catch is pleased to re-open its doors with a new range of grown up spirits and American beers. After 12 years of curating an exceptional programme of bands and DJs that has seen the likes of Erol Alkan, Bloc Party, Pete Doherty, The Horrors, Mystery Jets and Yeasayer, Catch will be welcoming Death By Burrito with open arms and a brand new kitchen.
Spurred on by the rise of street food culture, Death By Burrito is set to become East London’s premier authentic Mexican drinking and dining destination.
