This week, the British Fashion Council announced the shortlisted nominees for the British Fashion Awards 2012. The tres official sounding awards will be held on Tuesday 27th November and will be hosted by man of the moment, Nick Grimshaw, and Ms. Lauren Laverne.
The prestigious awards celebrate the extensive talent that the British fashion industry has to offer; the British Fashion Council pride themselves on showcasing emerging stars as well as heralding successful designer brands, models and style icons. The evening is to be attended by the most influential fashion industry leaders, designers, retailers, celebrities, models and fashion journos alike.
The event will be the biggest celebration of British Fashion since the Olympics’ closing ceremony’s nod to the triumphant industry. For the past two years, style-almighty Alexa Chung has been awarded the title of ‘British style icon’. The British Style Award is voted for by the public, and awarded to the individual who most embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for London as a leading creative fashion capital.
This years nominees are an eclectic mix, and while some of the names consistently reoccur at fashion awards’ ceremonies, there are a few pleasant surprises in this year’s running. Interestingly, Mary Katrantzou (last year’s recipient of the Emerging Talent award) has been nominated for the Designer of the year award. Unexpectedly, David Gandy has been nominated for the model of the year award… (swoon).
