A change in the seasons means the perfect excuse to buy nice new clothes to play with. Exiting new collections and collaborations are emerging across the high street as the retailers fight to keep our attention and keep us shopping through the tough times.

As much as I am a supporter of the great British high street and we have had a fairly monogamous relationship so far, my eye has begun to wander. In my search for something more exciting I have stumbled upon a few online only retailers that I think are hot enough to make me cheat.

Now I am aware that Internet shopping is not a new concept, but if I’m to be completely honest, I’ve never even bought anything from asos, so for me this is a biggie.

One brand in particular that has caught my eye is Spanish Moss. The company specialise in vintage as well as their own label, American Gold. They operate from their Californian base, but take time to travel throughout America collecting inspiration for their collections.  This results in beautifully designed pieces that you might find on your gap year and keep and wear forever. Indeed,  the company ethos is that their pieces are “intended to be a keepsake that survives the ebb and flow of the trends of the moment”.

Now please don’t be scared off by the mention of gap year chic, this isn’t a fisherman pants and beaded anklet situation. Pieces are carefully sourced and considered and there is little chance of looking like you’re about to volunteer with orphans or paint a temple.

Along with both collections is the company blog. Now, I can admittedly lose myself in blogs for days admiring “look at me! I’m just casually leaning against this tree, standing in a park as I do most days, wearing this really practical outfit” photos. However these can get a tad tiresome. Now don’t worry, there are still these types of photos (phew) but what it also has is a great collection of images that have been the designer’s inspiration for the collection. It is rare that customers get to see the inspiration behind designs. These images bring the collections to life and will soon have you wanting to stuff your backpack and hitchhiking into the sunset.
