If I wasn’t shopping, fashion and shoe mad, I don’t think I’d be a columnist on this fab site. As I am shopping, fashion and shoe mad a day at Westfields on Saturday sans kiddies and husband, with one of my oldest girlfriends, is my idea of heaven!
I could easily shop all day, every day and never get bored of it. I am as happy to look as I am to buy and am pretty sure if shopping was an Olympic sport, I would be a gold medal winner every year.
It was a sunny day, maybe one of the last of this summer (if you can call it that) but the stunning central Atrium and spectacular glass roof meant that at times the VB style sunnies came out and we kind of soaked the rays. Unless you’ve been in hibernation for a few years, you must know that Westfields is THE London shopping destination? As well as being home to hundreds of luxury, premium and high street retailers, there’s a 14-screen state-of-the-art cinema, gym, spa, and a lot of places to eat and drink so even if you don’t like shopping (how can that be) there is something for everyone.
After being inspired at a fashion event the day before, I was on a mission to combine my current love of orange with a splash of cobalt blue and my statement black. H&M, Topshop, Mango, Russell and Bromley, Prada and Jimmy Choo were all visited along with many more. As I quite like being married, I put photos of the expensive stuff on Oli’s Facebook but still grabbed plenty of A/W basics that to help me stand out of the crowd but also blend in so I don’t look like Mutton Dressed as Lamb at ‘the gates’….does that make sense?
By 2pm I was starving and headed to the Southern Terrace and went in for the kill when we saw a table outside Fire and Stone in the sunshine. Without two small ankle biters shouting and stressing me out, I was able to sit back, relax and catch up with Clare about holidays, parties, jobs and my growing blog. It was great, and just a little bit reassuring, to know that whilst we hadn’t seen one another for 6 months, and she is still living the London life whilst I’m out in the sticks, our 22 year old friendship was as strong as ever.
I went for the delicious prawn salad and Clare tried the chicken and parmesan version and we weren’t disappointed; it looked stunning and tasted amazing too. As we ate we did a spot of people watching; there were some uber mummies pushing Bugaboos stashed with plastic bags whilst, students without a care in the world, expect staggering debts and growing fees, who were window shopping and a plethora of pretty teens obviously out to impress model scouts in Toppers and were like, just going to go to Starbucks for a totes amaze glass of …… water!
The dough strips with cinnamon and nutella dip were a great dessert and even though the very helpful, equally pretty waiter offered us coffee and more drinks, we were stuffed but promised we’d be back for cocktails and chocolate brownies on our next trip (details can be seen at http://www.fireandstone.com/pizza/specialoffers/westfield.asp).
On round two of the shopping I collected a few more bags of stuff, checked out the nail bar and managed to listen into some gossip as I enjoyed a final latte before heading back to the ‘burbs.
With my bags of swag safely smuggled into the house, I realised there was no room for everything! So the maxi dresses, jumpsuits and sandals have been packed away (not sure I really needed them this ‘summer’) and in their place are two wardrobes and 3 chest of drawers of jeans, tees, jumpers jackets and a collection of flats, heels and boots as well as scarves, hats and bags that are screaming out ‘wear me’.
