84-year-old celebrity hairdresser Vidal Sassoon sadly passed away at his mansion yesterday surrounded by family members, just months after it emerged he was fighting leukaemia.
The hair stylist created the chic bob, which shot to fame thanks to Mary Quant back in the 60’s.
Sassoon first knew he wanted to be a hairdresser when he was just 14 years old. He worked as a ‘shampoo boy’ responsible for mixing the elements used to dye hair. The world famous coiffure was in his twenties when he opened his first salon in London back 1954. He created low maintenance styles and his business rocketed, making him the international star we remember today. His clients ranged from Mia Farrow to the Duchess of Bedford. He groomed celebrities and royalty a like.
Vidal Sassoon was so passionate about his profession and even created his own line of shampoo/conditioners called ‘Wash & Go’. He was also awarded a CBE for his lifelong dedication to his profession. This man’s story is an inspiration. Coming from an orphanage, enduring speech therapy- Sassoon has worked hard to create the legacy he leaves with us today.
