New Menswear Brand Brings Back Quality British Fashion

New British menswear brand, Coeur de Lion, has launched its online retail outlet www.2lions.co.uk, which showcases its inaugural range of polo shirts, jackets and knitwear – all 100% designed and made in Britain.

Taking its inspiration from iconic British monarch, Richard the Lionheart, the range symbolises courage and strength and features King Richard’s ‘two lions’ coat of arms as its brand identity.

With an emphasis on quality, the classic polo shirts are made from 100% cotton and the crew and v-neck knitwear is 100% lambswool, available in 12 colours. The traditional cricket sweater emphasises everything British about this inaugural Coeur de Lion collection.

The London Look caught up with David Mosley, Director/Designer of Coeur de Lion,

WHICH DESIGNERS INFLUENCE YOU THE MOST?

I suppose if I had to pick it would probably be Paul Smith, but to be honest I cannot help but be disappointed by the way some designers claim their British credentials, when much of their clothing is from anywhere but Britain. Shoppers deserve transparency and trust and we should respect that by delivering against what we say on our labels.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?

I was in Switzerland with other England fans for a Euro qualifier and the realisation hit me that most of the brands being worn, whilst playing the “British heritage card”, were actually made in China, Turkey, Bangladesh etc. I asked around and most fans said they assumed their ‘British’ brand would be made in Britain, but I knew that most weren’t and wanted to do something about it.

But I had to question if an affordable, genuine, British-made brand, with a story and a heritage could exist…

Yes it could and the result is Coeur de Lion, which is inspired by courageous and iconic British monarch, Richard the Lionheart, with his original Two Lions coat of arms being our logo. The later – and more recognisable – third lion version is the one still used today.

Then I set out on the challenge of finding some of the few remaining British manufacturers to work with, but after a number of setbacks Mary Portas would have been proud to include in her TV programme, I eventually arrived at the current range with a continued search for more quality manufacturers and classic lines.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON CURRENT BRITISH FASHION?

Really like the recent trend to traditional British classics, for example quilted and motorbike jackets. The time is now also right for the True Classic, the ‘Harrington’. Oh and did I say, ours IS actually MADE IN BRITAIN.

WHAT DO WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO FROM YOUR BRAND THIS UPCOMING SEASON?

Our best seller is the classic polo and we’ve have had demand for more colours, so we’re looking at that currently. We’re also continuing our search for more British manufacturers to work with on new lines and designs.

SUM UP YOUR BRAND IN THREE WORDS

Classic – Stylish – British

The jackets are available in a wide range of styles including Harrington, Wax, Quilted and Motorbike – again in a variety of colours. Visit www.2lions.co.uk for the full range.

With a desire to make British fashion inclusive and accessible, pricing is affordable – in the range of £49 to £99 – and further reiterating the brand’s patriotism, £1 from every Internet sale goes to the Royal British Legion.

I think I should win a jacket as I get up on stage 4-10 times a month infront of 100′s of people to play gigs. Numerous photographs are taken off me as well as interviews. I’m constantly in the public eyes and would always be ‘plugging’! And I really like the style!

Because I wear a denim tank top and nobody will talk to me… It won’t fix the Speedo and hiking boot combination but at least the top half of me will be acceptable.

I never realised that the ‘british’ items we wear are not made in Britain at all. Well done to this guy and good luck! Good to hear about these stories. P.s your website looks great as well and love the clothing and very reasonably priced.
